Session 1

State of the World 2022

Saturday, 5 November 2022

09:00 - 10:25 | GMT+7

The world in 2022 is witnessing significant political and socio-economic repercussions due to the ongoing wars and conflicts – thus impacting the lives of millions of global citizens around the globe: from geopolitical repositioning and regrouping due to the increased great powers’ rivalries to the rise of authoritarianism in the times of crisis; the fueling of war of values and deepening polarization; growing social inequalities and unprecedented levels of hunger, further complicated by the impending climate crisis – we are living in a time of multifaceted and multidimensional crisis.

With the direction of world affairs becoming more divided and volatile, marked by rapidly increasing rivalry, confrontation, and mistrust across the board in strategic, diplomatic, economic, and political realms, what can we expect for the future of our world? What are our chances of sustaining peace and development in our divided world?
