The future of our planet hangs in the balance as the Earth's temperature is on track to soar by 2.7°C by the century's end. As the UN Secretary-General has declared, “The era of global warming has ended. The era of global boiling has begun.” Over the next 10 years, due to the climate crisis, up to 130 million people will be plunged into poverty. By 2050, more than 200 million individuals could be forced to migrate within their own homelands, uprooting families and communities. Already we have witnessed scorching heat waves, raging wildfires, deadly floods, and withering droughts wreak havoc across continents. To limit temperature rise to 1.5°C, global emissions must be cut by almost half by 2030.
Gearing up for the upcoming G20 Summit in India and the first-ever Global Stocktake at this year’s COP, the session "Climate Crisis: Are We All on Track and on the Same Page?" will confront critical issues head-on and assess our progress in tackling the climate crisis. Are we making progress or are we backsliding? What are the groundbreaking solutions we need and the ‘blind spots’ we must remove to reshape the fight for climate stability? Are we truly united in our efforts, or is there discord among sectors and nations? How do we mobilize the entire global population of 8 billion people to take bold, decisive steps for the climate, not sometime in the distant future, but right now?
